prov. Persiae, variis nominibus hodie nominata, magna ex parte plana, et praeclarissimis urbibus adornata, quarum celeberrimae sunt Talebrota, Samaria, Carta et Tape: adeo fertilis et opulenta, ut vitis vini metretam ferat, et ficus sexaginta modios ficuum, frumentum ex semine nascatur quod cadit ex culmo, in atboribus mellificetur, profluat mel ex oleis. Habet a Sept. mare Caspium, seu Hytcanum, a Mer. Parthiam, ab Ortu Margianam, ab Occ. Mediam.In ea regione pantherae, pardi et tigres abundant, cum silvis quoque aspera sit. Virg. Aen. l. 4. v. 367.

Baudr. fuit, ubi nune Tabarestan, Gilan, et Gorgian, partes Persiae, quarum prima extenditur versus mare Caspium. Gorgian autem distat a mati, cum urbe prim. cogn. quae creditur Hyrcaniae urbs antiqua. Utraque sub Persis. Erat Hyrcania proprie pars Parthiae late sumptae. Inde mare Hyrcanum, quod et Caspium, dicitur. Nunc mer de Bacu, ab urbe cogn. in Media, et mer de Sala et Salacinit ab urbe sic dicta in Tartaria. Russis Gualenza more, Armenis mer di Giorgian, Persis Dario Guaylani seu mer de Gueylan et de Tabarestan. Item mer de Chowarezem, a prov. Persidis contermina Siruvaniae ab Ortu, Arabibus Curzum aut Bohar Cursum, quod nomen commune habet cum sinu Arabico, et mare clausum significat. Vide Texeiram l. 1. Extenditur a Sept. in Mer. ad 600. mill. pass. nempe ab ora Olgariae ad oram Chilaniae. Sed ab Ortu in Occas. ad 300. tantum, ut tradunt recentiores, quibus hoc mare navigatum; quod melius convenit cum sententia Agrippae in Plin. l. 6. c. 13. et 16. et Strabo l. 2. p. 72. 118. l. XI. p. 107. et 108. cum alii antiqui, ac multi recentiores, inter quos Ioh. Persa, etiam illud extenderint ad 800. mill. pasl. in longitudinem. Terminatur a Sept. regno Astrachani, et Olgaria, seu Camuchiis Tartaris; ab Ortu Mavalnaharia reg.
